India’s ambition to transition into a fully developed nation by 2047—under the foundational banner of Viksit Bharat—is moving away from abstract policy and transforming into a tangible industrial reality. Speaking at the valedictory session of the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC) in Vadodara, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized that India’s long-term sovereignty relies on a three-pronged foundation: robust economic growth, technological self-reliance, and uncompromised national security.
1. Defence Manufacturing as a Multiplier, Not Just a Shield
The Metric that Matters: Driven by policy overhauls like the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP), India’s annual defence production reached an all-time high of ₹1.78 lakh crore in FY 2025–26. Concurrently, defence exports skyrocketed by over 62% in the last fiscal year to hit a record ₹38,424 crore, supplying indigenous hardware to over 80 countries.
- MSME Integration: Advanced aerospace and defense contracts require tightly integrated local supply chains, directly pulling up thousands of micro, small, and medium enterprises.
- Private Capital Inflow: The private sector’s contribution to defence production has hit an all-time high of 24% (~₹42,000 crore), proving that the defense sector is no longer the exclusive sandbox of public sector undertakings (DPSUs).
- High-Skilled Job Creation: Upstream manufacturing complexes require specialized labor, engineering talent, and localized tooling hubs, creating high-yield employment opportunities.
2. Unlocking the Logistics Boom: Connecting Factories to Frontiers
- Multimodal Logistics & Port Infrastructure: Seamlessly blending rail, road, and port operations via the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) to lower overall transaction costs.
- Specialized Project Cargo: Moving heavy, sensitive defense machinery and industrial boilers requires highly technical transport setups and specialized logistics tracking.
- Ancillary Warehousing: Strategically placed, climate-controlled, and secure storage hubs adjacent to newly announced Smart GIDC (Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation) estates.
