Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), the crown jewel of India’s maritime infrastructure, has posted an impressive 15.52% year-on-year growth in container traffic for Q1 FY 2025-26. The port handled 1.95 million TEUs and 24.2 million tonnes of total cargo between April and June 2025—setting a new benchmark in operational efficiency and throughput.
Key Highlights (April–June 2025):
- Container traffic:
- 19,50,188 TEUs handled — up 15.52% YoY
- 1,764 container rakes handled, up from 1,534 last year
- 284,102 TEUs via rail, up from 243,309 TEUs last year
- Total cargo throughput:
- 24.20 million tonnes — up 10% YoY
- Terminal infrastructure:
- 5 world-class container terminals: NSFT, NSICT, NSIGT, BMCT, APMT
- Dedicated Shallow Water Berth for general cargo
- Liquid Cargo Terminal managed by BPCL-IOCL; new terminal upcoming via JSW-JNPA JV
- Strategic investments:
- Newly constructed coastal berth improving coastal container trade
- Multi-product SEZ spread over 277 hectares to boost export manufacturing
- Development of Vadhvan Port (India’s 13th Major Port) – a deep-draft, all-weather, 100% greenfield port poised to be among the top 10 ports globally
